RAF St. Mary's Hospital, Halton - December 2007

Princess Mary's was the first RAF general hospital and was built at the Halton aerodrome in Buckinghamshire between 1924 and 1927 and finally closed during 1995. The whole site was quite large so we didn't quite get to look at everything and by the time we went demolition on some buildings was well underway. We covered the operating theatres and IC units, kitchens, reception, pathology, physiotherapy, children's ward and X-ray. In the dining rooms there was a sort of surreal beach scene painted on the wall against which we took a group shot. Overall fairly non-descript turn of the century brick buildings with some nice internal touches, like the art deco staircase and lift. By the time we visited the place had been disused for quite a while so a fair amount of vandalism had taken place. Now demolished.
